Special Issue: Data, algorithms and 3D applications
Geo-information continues to evolve toward representing the world in 3D with increasing quality and scope. Thanks to new or increasingly efficient Earth Observation platforms (terrestrial, aerial, or satellite), exponential computing power, and diverse and complementary techniques (optical, radar, laser), 3D modeling of the world around us is becoming ever more detailed. The creation of urban digital twins to digitally manage complex environments is booming, along with simulation and modeling tools that help decision-makers make better choices (e.g., pollutant or noise propagation).
The context of climate change is also a major driver of demand for 3D data: topography disrupted by recurrent flooding, changes in the underwater coastline (bathymetry), urban heat islands, positioning of photovoltaic panels, carbon accounting through biomass estimation based on tree height, study of sites of interest (archaeological or architectural), and civil engineering (construction sites, bridges, dams, buildings) are all examples of rapidly growing applications. This expansion of 3D usage has also reached related domains, such as video games, which seek realistic environments and have pioneered 3D visualization and interaction tools. And how many more applications could there be?
On March 17–18, 2024, the SFPT organized a seminar reviewing the entire 3D pipeline-from data acquisition to innovative applications, including model generation and information extraction methods, in which AI may play a significant role. The special issue “3D Data, Algorithms and Applications” of RFPT contains some of the scientific contributions from this seminar.

Articles submitted in a free mode (except call for publication and / or special issue), during the year 2024. These publications are evaluated by 2 reviewers chosen by the RFPT. Publications appear online as soon as they're accepted (as-you-go publishing mode).
Peer review policy
All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process by at least 2 reviewers.
